TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Former Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Susi Pudjiastuti commented on the allotted budget amounting to Rp421 billion for the food estate project. She believes that the budget will bear more results if spent on fishing vessels.
“Rp421 billion ought to be spent on 50 fishing vessels to catch fish in Indonesian waters. One vessel per year will result in Rp10 billion at the very least,” she tweeted on her official Twitter/X account @susipudjiastuti on Thursday, August 31, 2023.
Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo previously mentioned that the ministry has allotted Rp421 billion to the food estate megaproject out of the total Rp2.76 trillion of the Specific Allocation Fund (DAK).
Syahrul reported that the fund will be distributed to 6 provinces and 50 regencies, including North Sumatra, Central Kalimantan, and the provinces in Java.
The seven regencies were appointed as food estate regents during a limited meeting on August 23, 2023. Further, 3 other locations for the food estate program were appointed in accordance with the Ministry Decision No. 19 of 2023.
“The existing food estates could be boosted, while previously there was only one planting index per year,” said Syahrul when met by Tempo.
